The Hall Of Fame's Community Involvement

This page highlights the ways the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame is active in the community.

April 2012

The Hall of Fame sponsored a child for the Terre Haute Children's Choir for the third year.

The Hall also continued their support of the Terre Haute Community Band by purchasing advertising in their annual brochure and contributing to their Festival of Community Bands.

October 2011

The Hall of Fame donated $500 to the Shriners Burns Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.

June 2011

The Hall of Fame sponsored a child for the Terre Haute Children's Choir for the second time.

The Hall also supported the Terre Haute Community Band by purchasing advertising in their annual brochure and contributing to their first annual Festival of Community Bands.

May 2011

The annual Colgate Challenge singing contest hosted by WTHI radio gained a new sponsor and became the Texaco Challenge.  Also, they added two semi-final rounds at Mulligan's in addition to the finals at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute, IN.  The Hall of Fame provided three judges for each of the events.  This was the 4th year we have done this.

December 2010

The Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame made a donation to the Terre Haute Children's Choir. This is a great organization that brings our young kids together and shares music.

October 2010

Hall of Fame members Terry Wenzel (guitar), Dennis Sickler (keyboards) and Robert Lane (bass) donated their time to entertain residents, staff and volunteers at the Miller's Merry Manor nursing home in Sullivan, IN.

September 2010

In response to many comments and questions about assisting local musicians with buying, selling and trading used musical equipment, the Hall of Fame organized and held the first annual Musicians Community Swap Meet in the parking lot behind the Music Shoppe and Zamberletti's at 25th & Washington streets in Terre Haute, IN.

Due to a number of factors, there wasn't much advance news of the event.  Therefore, the turnout was light.  However, we learned a lot from the experience and expect the second annual event to be bigger and better.

July 2010

As schools announced wave after wave of budget cuts, the Hall of Fame recognized that music programs would be among the first to suffer.  Feeling that the Arts, and in particular music, are an important part of a child's education, the Hall of Fame decided to do whatever we can to support music programs in Wabash Valley schools, and started the "Keep Music In Our Wabash Valley Schools" fund.  Our goal is to build this fund to the point where we can make donations once or twice a year, tailored to the needs of each school we help.

We have been setting up donation containers at our events, but we don't hold enough events to raise all of the money we need make an impact.  We invite you to assist us in this cause by sending a tax deductible donation to the Hall of Fame, to be placed in the fund.  Visit the Contact Us page on this web site for our mailing address.  There are no administrative costs, so 100% of your donation goes to help school programs.

May 2010

The Hall of Fame provided three judges for the annual Colgate Challenge singing contest held at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute, IN.  This was the 3rd year we have done this.

February 2010

The Hall of Fame Facebook page opens for business.  Our Facebook page allows us to do things that aren't as easy to do on a traditional web site.  In particular, we are able to easily communicate with our friends and keep them up-to-date on Hall activities and events, as well as community events like fundraisers, etc., something our friends have been requesting for quite some time.

January 2010

The Hall of Fame sends wreaths or flowers to the funerals of all of our members, if notified in time to do so.  Starting in 2010, we have a special permanent wreath that will be displayed at the funeral home whenever possible.

May 2009

The Hall of Fame provided three judges for the annual Colgate Challenge singing contest held at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute, IN.  This was the 2nd year we have done this.

March 2009

The Hall of Fame purchased a brick in support of the Terre Haute Children's Museum's building fund.

February 2009

The Hall of Fame donated an electronic keyboard and 12 Hall of Fame tee shirts to the Mark Leo Reed Youth Center in Sullivan, IN.

August 2008

Since its inception, the Hall of Fame has held only one event per year - our annual induction ceremony.  The Hall felt the need to give something back to the community, and started a new annual event, the Picnic & Jam.  At this event, people can enjoy good food, good company and great music, all with no admission charge.
